The game was not completed, because after the first half it was very dark outside and there was not enough lighting in the stadium, as a result of which “Butchers” won the 13th title in the history of the club.
Both teams fought for the title for the fifth year in a row.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this was the only strength of both clubs in the Latvian championship in the shortened season. This game could be considered the title match because the closest followers “Hedgehogs” / “EC Systems” could no longer threaten the positions of both leading teams.
Before the decisive game, “Butchers” led the tournament with 17 points, but Garkalne residents had three less.
Both teams previously met only in the Baltic Top League tournament this season, where the victories were divided in half. In the most important game – for the fifth place – the victory was celebrated by “Garkalne” / “Livonia”.
Since 1997, “Ķekava” / “Miesnieki” has been crowned the national champions for the 13th time, but Saturday’s opponents have won four trophies in the last seven years.
In the decisive match of 2019, “Garkalne / Livonia” beat the “Butchers” with 26:22, regaining the title after a two-year break.
