Kejriwal on AAP-Congress Alliance in Delhi: Will They or Won’t They

Kejriwal Denies Alliance, Questions Security After Being Targeted at Delhi Rally

New Delhi – As Delhi gears up for its 2024 Assembly elections, tensions are rising between the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the BJP, with both sides accusing the other of instigating violence. AAP chief Kejriwal, addressing reporters today, emphatically denied any possibility of joining forces with the Congress or any members of the INDIA bloc for the upcoming elections.

"Let me be clear: there will be no alliance in Delhi," he stated firmly.

This declaration comes on the heels of a recent incident during a public rally in Malviya Nagar, where a man threw liquid on Kejriwal. Although AAP claims the liquid smelled like spirit and was a potential firebomb, police maintain it was simply water.

Kejriwal, visibly shaken but defiant, used the incident to criticize the Home Minister and the BJP, questioning the state of law and order in the capital. "After I raised concerns about public safety, I was targeted during my rally. What was my fault?" he asked, linking the incident to broader issues of governance.

"We were only highlighting the rising crime rates and calling for better security. If the government is capable of tackling these issues, why target us?"

The attack has injected a new level of tension into Delhi’s political landscape, with each side trading accusations.

AAP Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj alleged, "The attacker had both a matchbox and a bottle that smelled like spirit. He clearly aimed to set Mr. Kejriwal on fire. Our volunteers acted swiftly and prevented a tragedy." Bharadwaj went further, claiming the attacker

was linked to the BJP in an attempt to eliminate Kejriwal,

The BJP, however, dismissed these claims as a “publicity stunt” orchestrated by AAP to gain sympathy, with Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva stating, "Delhiites are asking why such incidents only happen to Mr. Kejriwal?" The accused, Ashok Jha, a 41-year-old bus marshal, has been detained.

Adding to the political turmoil, AAP MLA Naresh Balyan was arrested in connection with an alleged extortion case. Kejriwal defended the MLA, claiming Balyan was being targeted by gangsters and falsely implicated.

"Naresh Balyan’s crime, as I understand it, is that he was a victim of extortionists. He had received threats and ransom demands from gangsters over a year ago. He even filed complaints," Kejriwal insisted.

The arrest, supposedly stemming from a recorded conversation between Balyan and gangster Kapil Sangwan, has further fueled the firestorm within Delhi’s political arena.

With both sides engaging in a blame game, the upcoming elections promise to be a tightly contested and potentially volatile affair.
