Keita Kasuga Sentenced to 11 Years in Prison for Hiroshima Robbery Incident

Hiroshima District Court

Kanagawa Prefecture was charged with crimes including robbery resulting in bodily injury for being the perpetrator of an incident that occurred in December last year at a watch store and residence in Nishi Ward, Hiroshima City, which was part of a wide-area robbery that was said to involve an instructor calling himself “Luffy.” On the 13th, the Hiroshima District Court sentenced Keita Kasuga (19), an unemployed defendant from Ebina City, to 11 years in prison (14 years in prison).

Presiding Judge Koichiro Hino pointed out in his ruling that the consequences were extremely severe, as the 50-year-old male victim suffered severe injuries that left him with aftereffects and was forced to close his shop. The defendant himself had beaten the man’s father and “played a fairly large role,” he said, rejecting the defense’s argument that the defendant be sent to a juvenile detention center for protective measures.

The defendant was 18 years old at the time of the incident and is considered a “specified juvenile.” Although the Hiroshima District Public Prosecutors Office announced his name at the time of the indictment, Presiding Judge Hino proceeded with the trial without reading out his name in court.

According to the ruling, on the night of December 21 last year, the two conspired to break into a store and residence and hit a man in the head with an adjustable wrench. They also assaulted his parents, injuring three of them, and stole about 2.5 million yen in cash and over 130 items, including watches. The man remains in critical condition with brain contusions.
