The 69-year-old Portuguese specialist returned to Iran in September and was signed on a short-term contract. Under the leadership of Queiroz, Iranian footballers failed to get out of the subgroup of the 2022 World Cup final tournament.
Queiroz previously worked with the national team from 2011 to 2019, after which he also managed Colombia and Egypt.
During his coaching career, Queiroz also led the national teams of Portugal, the United Arab Emirates and the Republic of South Africa, as well as being Sir Alex Ferguson’s assistant at the English Premier League club Manchester United and the head coach of the Spanish giants Real Madrid.
The Qatar national team was previously led by Felix Sanchez from 2017.
