After an alert via the integrated control center, a police patrol was able to see a smaller fire glow in a ground floor apartment ‘Am alten Sportplatz’.
Some residents of the apartment building had already gathered in front of the building and the stairwell was slightly smoky.
As it could not be ruled out that someone was still in the apartment, the officers from the Kehl police station forcibly opened the apartment door and began to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher. After being taken over by the fire brigade, the source of the fire was completely extinguished.
Witnesses and residents told the police that a man could be responsible for setting the fire and had since left.
Southern appearance, black hair, very slim and 185 centimeters tall – this is how the fugitive was described.
Further investigations will show whether there are disputes between the tenant and the fugitive in connection with the fire.
