Early June, Kees Vierhouten passed away at the age of 51. A loss for family and friends of the major shareholder of football club Go Ahead Eagles. The death of the Ermelo entrepreneur was sudden, he died at home from a heart attack. At Go Ahead Eagles, Kees is still missed daily and yesterday afternoon he was honorably remembered.
The match against Fortuna Sittard was scheduled for Sunday afternoon, the season opener for Go Ahead Eagles.
Immortalized among the heroes
Before the match, an image of Kees was unveiled by his family. On the Larenstein building, space was made available for Kees, who died far too young, where he is now immortalized with many heroes from the rich history of the club on Vetkampstraat. Before the start of the competition match, a minute’s silence was also held in memory.

Applause in the 51st minute
In the 51st minute, referee Bos urged the Fortuna goalkeeper to wait a moment before restarting the game. This drew extra attention to the applause that resounded from the stands. The Go Ahead Eagles, playing with black armbands, were able to emphasize the loss of the club man, together with the public.

Goosebumps
The ‘You’ll never walk alone’ was sung and a banner with the text: ‘Rest in peace Kees’, was shown on the Brinkgreverweg stand. A goosebumps moment for all 9500 present in De Adelaarshorst. The duel against Fortuna was lost 0-2.
There is also a place in the press room for Kees Vierhouten, who passed away far too early.
