A fierce confrontation in ‘Scammers Tackled’ this week, in which Kees van der Spek (57) unmasks former ‘Helemaal Het Einde’ participant Addy van W.. Addy has started a kind of utopia in Portugal for corona skeptics. Although there is a group that immediately follows him, it turns out that he has misled them all. “He’s a first-rate swindler.”
“That’s a lot of fraud”

The idea appeals to many in these confusing times: somewhere in the middle of nowhere to found an ideal society with kindred spirits, somewhere far from civilization. Addy van W., known from the RTL program all the way to the end, started a Christian community for corona skeptics this spring, but its ‘ambitious’ ideas make it seem more like a religious sect.
A few years ago, Addy and his family left the Netherlands behind to leave for Chile in front of the camera. For 52 episodes, viewers could follow the ups and downs of the family and saw how Addy tried, among other things, to set up an overseas stroopwafel trade. But how sympathetic the reality syter appears in front of the camera, behind the scenes it is different. This is apparent when Kees calls Addy’s former business partner and calls him a ‘big dick’. “I understood him quickly. He has very nice stories (…) But he tries to scam people on all sides, absolutely.”

And there was more that wasn’t quite right. Before he left for Chile, Addy had a gym in Voorburg, and according to his customers at the time, he did not leave it properly. There would even be unpaid bills. He is now repeating that trick: in the spring of 2021 Addy and his family will come up with a new radical plan and launch a website where they call for a Christian community to be founded in Portugal, away from civilization, where they ‘protect people’. of the system’.
Although there is immediately a group of people who follow them, as time goes on they also start to doubt more and more. “The way he puts people away, talks about people – I’ve heard that from others too – that’s not Christian,” says one of them in the program. “I have certain points that I think: this is fake.” In addition, the family believes, among other things, that the earth is flat. “He tried to put such a compulsive feeling on you that you weren’t allowed to get out,” another tells his story. Another tells that Addie kept an eye on everyone’s everything, and you even had to notify him if you left your own land. Many of them decide to leave, but they still don’t have their money back. Some still receive about 65,000 euros from him.

When Kees goes to get a story from a real estate agent in Portugal, it turns out that Addy has already sold the land before it is even in his name. “If he didn’t have us, he could never have bought that land. That’s cheating, isn’t it? That’s a lot of fraud,” says one of the victims, Viola, who is with us.
The broker also tells them that Addy should not have sold the land at all and that the Portuguese government has absolutely no knowledge of this. But when former resident Viola confronts him, Addy claims otherwise and threatens to call the police if she doesn’t disappear. Even when Kees joins him, he continues to maintain his innocence. “I don’t let anyone accuse me!”
