Compared to the U21 European Championship earlier this summer, the Dutch Juniors have undergone a transformation. Taylor and Rensch are one of the few who are still part of the selection and according to Kwakman, the Ajax duo took the lead in Waalwijk. “Rensch and Taylor deserve a compliment. I can imagine that it is difficult for those boys, but you didn’t see that,” says the former defender and midfielder at Football talk on ESPN.

“Rensch was also captain and Reiziger does that well. Taylor also played well. He can play well in small spaces, but he needs to shoot on goal more often,” Kwakman mentions the only point for improvement. “Then he gets the ball twenty meters away and he still wants to give a through ball. That works occasionally, but he can shoot with left and right and I think he should shoot on goal much more often.”

Under Ajax coach Maurice Steijn, Taylor and Rensch are not yet convincing. While the right back has so far been assured of a starting place, this does not apply to Taylor.
