Both TV icons will reach their 75th birthday this year: Smeets Tuesday, Jansma in June. A good moment to take stock, says Jansma. “Obviously we have worked together for a long time. We actually found out that we didn’t know each other that well. We also have completely different personalities.”
The idea came from Jansma’s wife. ,,Mart and I happened to have a conversation. Then my wife said, ‘Why don’t you write letters to each other. Because in this time you can’t meet much. You have a whole life behind you. If you’re looking for an original way to find out how you’re put together, try that.’ I actually liked the first attempts.”
It will be a book about everything in life, says Jansma. There may also be minor irritations. For example, Smeets calls him ‘Kees of football’ in one of the first letters. “I’ll hit on that then. Then I think hello, haven’t I done more than football?!”
The book is expected to be in stores in October. The publisher will be Inside, who also published Jansma’s biography and his book about Wesley Sneijder.
