ONLY, MettaNEWS – Rotary Club of Solo, Rotaract Solo Pakarti, Bank Jateng and other organizations are holding campaigns World Polio Day at CFD Slamet Riyadi, Sunday (27/10/2024).
CFD’s #EndPolio campaign was animated with exercise and a healthy walk together from in front of Bank Jateng to the Slamet Riyadi Gladak Statue.
Acting was present in the #endpolio campaign. Solo Mayor Dhoni Widianto and Head of Solo City Health Service Retno Erawati Wulandari.
District Governor of Rotary District 3420, Suzzana Chandra, said that this activity was initiated by the Solo Rotary Club which consists of Rotary Solo Kartini, Rotary Solo Raya and Rotary Solo Sriwedari.
“Rotary has been fighting Polio for the past 40 years. And it was only in 1988 that Rotary was able to collaborate with WHO, UNICEF and other organizations to carry out a global end polio campaign. Every year Rotary around the world works out to identify the dangers of the polio virus, and how to prevent it. “Because if you have the disease, you cannot cure it, but with 2 drops of polio vaccine you can save the lives of our children with a better life,” he said.
Suzzana said that even if Solo had zero cases, this outreach would still be intensified to raise public awareness.
“It’s called a virus, while it’s still around, it’s still looking out. When children don’t have immunity and don’t get the vaccine, they get it. “Like what happened in Papua yesterday,” he said.
He hopes that everyone can become national ambassadors for #endpolio through their communities.
“There are still risks and don’t forget to vaccinate our children,” he said.
The head of the Solo City Health Service, Retno Erawati Wulandari, revealed that the City of Solo has zero polio victims.
“Since around 2014, the city of Solo has been polio free until now. DKK Solo continues to educate the public and vaccinate,” he said.
Nearby, from 28 October to 3 November 2024 DKK Solo will do a week of vaccination sessions or dancers at Community Health Centers and Posyandu.
“Vaccination targets around 8,000-9,000 children under the age of five in the city of Solo. The target for children under the age of five for polio vaccination is about 6,000 children. Hopefully, vaccine preventable diseases will not appear in Solo City. “Public awareness of vaccination must be high so that children under the age of five receive complete basic vaccination,” he said.
The Acting Mayor of Solo Dhoni Widianto appreciated the action of the Rotary Club together with Bank Jateng in starting the World Polio Day on the Solo Car Free Day (CFD) route. So it can reach a wider community.
“Until now, the polio vaccine has not been abandoned, but in Indonesia there are still some people who know about it. We want Posyandu cadres to collaborate with the Rotary Club for education and outreach at RT, RW and family levels. “Because Polio threatens the future of our children,” he concluded.
