Keep your nose in the air! / Script

Filming takes place at the art gallery “Aminori”, Valdemāra Street. The artist also lived on this street years ago, now she has moved to Skulti in Limbaži district, from where she is also picked up by the Latvian Television bus: “I am so happy that I am in Skulte, two kilometers from the sea.

If someone invited me to live in Riga today, I would shoot it on the spot! ”

the artist jokes, smiling and cheerful, wind-blown, pink cheeks climbing over the threshold of the gallery “Aminori”: “While the ass is dragging on the ground, the nose must be kept in the air!” she is happy to meet.

Almost at the same time, Latvian Radio journalist Zane Lāce, the daughter of Mrs. Skursten, arrives at the filming location, by the way, similar to her mother in both her fine build and facial features, as well as her tenth intonation. Zane arrives, loaded with two big bags, which contain not only pictures of her mother’s youth, but also belts and all sorts of other things. “I asked my daughter to bring some belts so the pants wouldn’t fall off!” the artist cheerfully explains and immediately takes a “ride” on Zani: “You see, my daughter can’t buy a belt for her mother anymore, can she?”

The cozy atmosphere in conversations with the creative group along with a little coffee and a bit of makeup continues until the director loudly determines: the engine! – and the interview begins. The actress looks at the excerpts from the creative group with her own participation and resolutely begins: “Yes, when it comes to television, the smell and memories of old times make you receive and be better than you are.”

The feature film “A Gift for a Lonely Woman” (directed by Ēriks Lācis), together with Eduards Pāvuls Sietiņš, is a classic not only in Velta, but also in Latvian cinema. Many have asked the actress how she is so convincingly “tortured at every turn of the country”? The truth is quite different. Velta has never even ridden a bicycle, or even a moped:

“My brother had a wheel, but his parents were afraid. Not that I will be hit while driving, but that I will break my brother’s wheel, ”comments Velta.

“When the need to drive came in the film, my son Juris trained me. But the roads were shaking as they filmed. ” The actress is now still actively moving, but not with the wheel or the moped, as she explains.

Speaking of the grumpy pair of amusing sieves, which Eduard Paul managed to reproduce in harmony, Velta states philosophically: “You see, these are the men. Kiss one as Sietins, but he is already looking at another. ”

Velta herself has been married three times. “If I had stayed in my native Talsi, would I have met the three men?” the artist is ironic about herself and continues: “My dear colleague Lyudmila Leimane once told me: I have four children and all from one husband. I exclaimed to her, “Oh, my poor one!”

Well, it will soon be the fifth decade since Chimney has been with Visvaldis Lācis, his third husband and life partner, who has also been Zana’s father. “Both characters are no joke, but they understand,” says Zane Lace, Chimney’s daughter. In turn, the interview with Visvaldis, preserved in the archives of Latvian Television, reveals a heartfelt attitude towards Velta: “The first thing that attracted me was her unusual voice,” he says with a smile. Velta still can’t stop wondering, “Is my voice really that different?” she asks childishly.

It is interesting that before the Velta Theater, Latvijas Radio worked, creating many wonderful roles in such children’s programs as “The Famous Duckling Tim”, “Snow White School”, “Three Piglets” and others.

“One of the biggest shocks I had was when I first heard my voice: Oh, did I really say that? Do I really have that voice? – I didn’t like it so much!

After that, many people have told me that I have a special voice. It feels like a voice to me. Like others, ”Mrs. Chimney flaped her hand and continues about her character:“ According to the horoscope, I am a Sagittarius in the Year of the Horse. I’m not a flatterer by “character”. I’m pretty straightforward, I joke a lot, but I say what I think. You see, I have my own sense of justice, I don’t like being overwhelmed. Then I can also give “between the eyes”, ”the artist makes Andrejs Volmārs, the host of the show, who is responsible for taking care of the well-being of her guests during the conversation. But he already knows that the “character” must be shown in the interview so that there is more splendor. Everyone in the creative group has a good sense of humor, and the presenter separates the next video into an “aipada”.

Skulte. Dedicated dogs Sancho and Rex: “I love dogs very much. They always listen and never speak out. Oh, what a treat! ” the artist enjoys looking at the archives of old years about her home.

“Sculpts when you go out in the spring, everything sparkles. I will not say that I like champagne, but nature inspires and makes me happy, ”says the artist. “Poor, poor people! How many cities are difficult for them! You have to deal with congestion. But they probably don’t think so. “

It did not seem to Velta herself at the time, working at the Youth Theater with the director Adolf Shapiro: . ”

One of the most interesting performances was Pauls Putniņš’s “Waiting Festival”, in which the young actors were in the image of parents and the seniors in the image of children. Director Ādolfs Šapiro, composer Mārtiņš Brauns. The actress remembers: “We had a wonderful and very friendly creative team. We played a lot with Edgars Liepiņš together with Tamara Sobolev, Vera Singajevska. Everyone barely had the money, together we decided who would borrow it at the self-help box this time …

Now I feel guilty that I’m still sitting here, but Mārtiņš Brauns is gone. And Gunta Skrastiņa. They are much younger than me.

Get funny then. By the way, Mārtiņš Brauns, who was the musical director at the National Theater, wrote a lot for the Youth Theater. He had wonderful music in Maugli. That cannot be forgotten. That time was very inspiring. Now I can’t do it anymore, it doesn’t bother me either. But it is good that when you have time, you have the opportunity to realize yourself. ”

One of the performances of all time and of all theaters, which is still considered a benchmark and is shrouded in fame and legend, was “Poetry, Playman”, a poetry composition by Aleksandrs Čaks conducted by Pēteris Pētersons and Imants Ziedonis in the role of Pētersons himself with Imants Skrastiņš : “I have a heartache about this show that it is not recorded in the archives,” says Velta Chimney, a witness to the show. “It was something special, the people of the theater came to the show in evening dresses, it was a sacred show. What happened to the audience when Imants Skrastiņš spoke to Chaku is difficult to tell today. The air in the hall vibrated. The audience and the actors breathed a sigh of relief, and long after the show, we didn’t leave the feeling that we were participants in something special and very important. ”

Actress Indra Burkovska also remembers this show. Especially for the show “Congratulations, Jubilee!” Indra has prepared a greeting for her theater aunt and girlfriend Velta Skursten, which begins with a story … about a jealous horse:

“It was one of the times when Velta and her husband Visvaldis visited my parents’ home in Kuldīga. For a while, Dad had taken a neighbor’s horse to help. And our own calm and friendly horse, which every child could safely approach, suddenly became jealous. So crazy that I bite my master, my father, on the shoulder! ” Burkovsky shares memories. “It is good that it was Veltiņa! She did not be embarrassed for a moment, but cried out: Vodka now! Both of Dad’s shoulders had to be disinfected, and not a single sledge came through until the “fast” arrived. I still remember Velta’s humor after that: it’s good that your mom isn’t as jealous as that horse, “Velta joked. – Then I would be bitten! – she defined it in her dialect dialect. ”

Indra Burkovska concludes her story with a wish: “If we laugh, we talk to heaven. Therefore, it would be wonderful if there were more people in the world with such a sharp mind as Veltiņa.

There is something very honest about him and also childish. But that sense of humor and also the ability to react in a stressful situation … Yes, it is not forgotten! ”

Interview hours ran fast. Velta would like to say a big thank you to Latvian Television for a special opportunity: to be a TV Gustav. The artist says that it was one of the most beautiful times in her life: “I loved Gustav, and he loved me too. And how interesting! – Gustiņš, in his full name High Soot, regulated me. It’s hard to believe, because he was a doll in my hand. But at the same time, he seemed to be running ahead of me, that image, his essence. I felt it in my brain and soul. And then through his mouth it came to the viewer. I understood what he wanted to say. We didn’t say much against the Soviets, but it was true in time, and the audience felt it. ”
