The cabinet wants to try to keep the schools open for as long as possible. “The problem is not with students. It does not solve much to close the schools and it has enormous consequences for the children,” said Prime Minister Mark Rutte on Friday.

The number of infections with the virus is increasing rapidly. The cabinet is seriously concerned about this. “The numbers look downright bad.” Rutte announced measures in another eight regions. There, among other things, the catering industry must close earlier.
In the first wave of the virus in March, the cabinet also did not want to close the schools. Experts saw no reason for this, but the call for closure grew in society, after which the cabinet decided to comply.
Rutte also sees that there is now little call for the schools to be locked. “I now also notice that a lot of parents and teachers are happy that schools are open and that everyone says: let’s keep that going for as long as possible.”
