Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – NASA’s Insight spacecraft arrived on Mars in 2018. As it approaches retirement age, it is discovered that the spacecraft hides many secrets of the planet near Earth.
Insight landed on November 26, 2018. Moments later, it sent a beep and a photo of its landing site to the team on Earth at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California.
But the Insight mission was almost over due to the dust covering its solar panels. Within a few weeks she could no longer send signals to indicate that she was fine.
The mission has made extraordinary discoveries on Mars, starting with earthquakes and images of the planet’s core. For example, on December 24, the planet’s surface rumbled under the plane’s feet CNN InternationalSunday (10/30/2022).
NASA scientists thought it was just a normal earthquake. The magnitude 4 earthquake was actually caused by the impact of a space rock several miles away.
It turned out that the meteoroid left many craters on the red planet. Furthermore, it also leaves a glistening piece of ice near the Martian equator which is quite hot.
The researchers also tested a microbe called “Conan the Bacterium” under conditions similar to those of Mars. They believe there are ancient microbes beneath the planet’s surface, due to organisms’ ability to survive harsh conditions.
