The Indian Harnaaz Sandhu (21) can call herself the new Miss Universe, but for Miss Belgium Kedist Deltour (24) there was not even a place in the final. A day later, she says she is “very disappointed”. But she no longer takes up her job as a hairdresser.

Kedist is certain: she will not go back to the hair salon where she worked. That chapter is closed. During her Miss year she was able to taste a different world – glitter, glamour, those things – and she wants to continue in that. “I want to go abroad, do modeling work. There are many people who think that my future lies there, so that strengthens me in that choice.”

The result of the Miss Universe election cannot change that ambition: in Eilat, Israel, Kedist did not win a place among the sixteen finalists on Sunday night. Despite a favorite role at the start. “I am extremely disappointed. Everything went perfectly and I believed in it myself. So you see again how the big countries hijack everything. I just ended up in a nightmare, even though I didn’t sleep a wink after the show,” she says a day later.
“I never thought I would cry so much before a game. And at the time, during my elimination, I also had to keep smiling. Because I was in the front, with a TV camera pointed at my face. It will now take time to give this a place, but I have learned a lot and made friends – even though everyone was determined to win, there was no jealousy among themselves.
