Kediri (ANTARA) – The City Government of Kediri, East Java, intensified the Simultaneous Mosquito Nest Eradication Movement (Gertak Mosquitoes) to prevent the development of mosquitoes. Aedes Aegypti which causes dengue fever.
The Mayor of Kediri, Abdullah Abu Bakar, said that this program was carried out with community service and the provision of fish, which were considered very effective in eating mosquito larvae.
“So the Kediri City Government does this ‘mosquito snap’ every Friday. We also bring betta fish because it is very effective at eating mosquito larvae,” said the mayor in Kediri, Friday.
He hopes this program can be done together. All jumantik cadres in every kelurahan must also be more active in checking mosquito larvae in residents’ homes and continue to provide education. With this, it is hoped that it will prevent the breeding of mosquitoes, especially the Aedes Aegypti species.
“This step is a precautionary measure. Don’t let an extraordinary incident happen before we move. We must work together to do this. I hope that by moving together to eradicate mosquito nests, there will be no incidence of dengue fever. Also pay attention to the water below refrigerators and clothes hangers that can become mosquito nests,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Health Office of the City of Kediri, Dr. Fauzan Adima, said that until now there were not many cases of dengue fever in the City of Kediri. When compared to 2021 in the same month, the number of cases decreased by around 70 percent.
He said that the mosquito repellent is also expected to be carried out by all residents, as an effort to prevent the breeding of mosquitoes.
“We involve all elements in the City of Kediri to carry out Mosquito Bullying. Because it’s useless if it’s not done simultaneously, the results are certainly not optimal. January to February is usually the peak. For that we must continue to make efforts to eradicate mosquito nests,” he said.
