The administration of the Central Union of Municipalities of Greece (KEDE) is asking for immediate and decisive intervention by the State to resolve the issues facing the local government, especially the finances, in view of the meeting with the Prime Minister immediately after the Thessaloniki International Fair (TEF).

The Board of Directors of KEDE, during today’s meeting, took the decision to request from the Ministry of the Interior the immediate payment of an extraordinary installment from the Central Autonomous Resources (KAP) to all Municipalities, in September and one installment in October, in order to enable the Municipalities to cover their operating costs and to proceed with the preparation of the 2025 budgets.

“The increase in salary costs, the non-escalation of energy costs and the imposition of the burial fee have created a situation of economic suffocation in all the municipalities of the country”, said the president of KEDE and mayor of Ampelokipi – Menemeni, Lazaros Kyrizoglou.

The mayor of Athens, Haris Doukas noted that the government remains indifferent to the repeated calls of the mayors to satisfy their unanimous requests for the strengthening of the finances of the Self-Government and proposed a 24-hour symbolic closure of the municipalities.

The meeting also discussed the issue of the continuation of the program concerning the employment of unemployed people aged 55+, financed by DYPA. KEDE requests the continuation of the employment program for the unemployed aged 55+, arguing that the program can be financed from DYPA’s own resources, without stopping for a single day.
