In a momentous celebration of Southeast Asian cultural heritage, the kebaya, a traditional blouse, has been officially recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural heritage. The announcement was made on December 4th in Paraguay,marking a meaningful achievement for Indonesia and ⁣its neighboring countries.

This prestigious​ designation‌ makes the kebaya⁢ indonesias 15th entry on the UNESCO ⁢intangible⁢ Heritage ‌list and‌ the second multinational nomination success since 2020. Ambassador Oemar emphasized that ⁢this⁢ inscription plays a crucial role in raising⁤ global awareness and‌ recognition for intangible cultural heritage practices, ​ultimately supporting⁢ efforts to preserve them. He clarified that inclusion on ⁤the UNESCO list does not imply ownership by ⁣a single⁣ country but rather celebrates the shared heritage ⁢of the⁢ region.

Indonesian Ambassador to ⁢Argentina, Uruguay, ⁢and⁢ Paraguay, Sulaiman Syarif, expressed immense pride in ‍the kebaya’s recognition, stating that it symbolizes the richness of Indonesian​ culture and strengthens regional solidarity in‌ preserving valuable cultural‌ treasures.

Indonesian Minister of Culture Fadli Zon echoed this sentiment, highlighting the kebaya as a symbol of unity in Southeast Asia. “The stipulation is a global recognition of our profound ⁤cultural values and our ⁢joint efforts in preserving culture,” he remarked.

This achievement follows ⁣closely on⁤ the heels of another significant recognition for Indonesia. ⁣Just ⁢a day prior, the Reog Ponorogo, a traditional dance and ‍theatrical ⁣performance, was also added to the UNESCO Intangible Cultural ⁢Heritage List⁢ under the “In Need⁣ of Urgent ‍Safeguarding” category.

The kebaya joins‌ a distinguished list​ of Indonesian cultural ⁢treasures recognized by UNESCO, including wayang puppetry, the kris dagger, batik textiles, angklung musical instruments, the Saman dance, the Noken Papua highlands carrying tool, three genres of traditional Balinese dance,‌ the art‍ of making Pinisi boats, pencak silat⁢ martial⁣ arts, pantun poetry, gamelan music, and the tradition of drinking herbal medicine.

This latest UNESCO ​recognition solidifies Indonesia’s commitment to preserving⁤ its rich cultural heritage and sharing it with the world.
