– KCC Honorary Chairman Sang-young Sang-young passed away on the evening of the 30th. Age 84.
The late KCC Honorary Chairman Sang-young Sang-young is the youngest brother of the late Hyundai Group Honorary Chairman Chung Ju-young, who was called’Chairman Wang’ in his lifetime. The era of the first-generation entrepreneurs who led the pan-modern family was to come to an end with the death of the Hyundai of Hang-ryul, the younger, as the last of the first generation.
Born in 1936, the deceased, who had been on the front line of management for more than 60 years, a rare founder in the Korean business world, was the longest-serving entrepreneur among domestic entrepreneurs.
In 1958, he founded Kumkang Thread Industrial Co., Ltd., which manufactures slate. He refused the support of his eldest brother, the late Honorary Chairman Chung Ju-young, and chose to become self-reliant. The entrepreneurial spirit of cultivating a strong company inside and practicing an industrial preservation outside has continued until now, and has achieved business expansion that meets the demands of the times through stability and change.
In 1974, he established’Koryo Chemical’ and entered the paint business, which is the organic chemical field, and in 1989, the construction business division was separated to establish Geumgang Construction (now KCC E&C). In 2000, it merged with Geumgang and Koryo Chemical to newly launch it as Kumkang Koryo Chemical. In 2005, Kumkang Koryo Chemical changed its name to KCC, raising it as a global high-tech material chemical company ranging from construction materials to silicon and high-tech materials.
– The late Honorary Chairman Sang-young Sang-young was a manager who emphasized the field by keeping in line with the growth of the Korean economy in the spirit of “industrial security”. In addition, it is evaluated that it has contributed to the localization of technology and industrial development by self-developing paints, glass, and silicon, which were dependent on foreign countries for the localization of construction and industrial materials.
Taking the lead in securing high-tech competitiveness, it succeeded in mass production of semiconductor encapsulants (EMC) for the first time in Korea in 1987, and contributed to the localization of semiconductor materials by successfully developing and commercializing adhesives for semiconductors. In 1996, it secured its own technology for water-soluble automotive paints, and made a big stride in the development of paint technology.
From 2003, the country’s first independent production of silicon raw materials (monomers), which were entirely dependent on imports from overseas, became the seventh country with silicon manufacturing technology after Germany, France, the United States, Japan, Russia and China. .
The deceased, who was a manager who set an example by himself by emphasizing ownership and righteous management to employees with a modest and frugal personality, emphasized the importance of talent and was willing to pay tens of billions of won in private assets at Dongguk University and Ulsan University to foster talent. They contributed their strength to securing the necessary talents.
There are three sons, including his wife Eun-joo Cho, KCC Chairman Chung Mong-jin, KCC Glass Chair Chung Mong-ik, and KCC E&C Chairman Chung Mong-yeol.
KCC said, “We plan to perform the funeral as quietly and simply as possible according to the will of the deceased.”
