▲ KBS ‘News 9’ broadcast screen capture KBS, which reported on the suspicion that President Yoon Seok-yeol cleared up the Busan Savings Bank investigation while he was a prosecutor, cited an article by investigative reporting media Newstapa and admitted that it had confused viewers.
KBS said through ‘News 9’ on the afternoon of the 8th, “On March 7th last year, KBS reported part of Newstapa’s recording of Kim Man-bae and Shin Hak-rim that was released the day before, along with a rebuttal from the People Power Party.” “After checking the transcript, it was revealed that part of the quoted transcript that was delivered on the 9 o’clock news yesterday (7th) was excerpted and edited,” he said.
The anchor continued, “We were unable to obtain the entire original text at the time, but as a result, it caused confusion to viewers,” and added, “We will further strengthen our efforts to confirm the facts in the future.”
Previously, on March 6th of last year, three days before the presidential election, Newstapa included a voice recording file of Mr. Kim Man-bae, the majority shareholder of Hwacheon Daeyu Asset Management, and said, “This file contains information regarding the suspicion of the prosecution’s investigation into Daejang-dong loans during the Busan Savings Bank investigation in 2011. “It contains Mr. Kim’s claims,” the report said.
In the audio recording, Mr. Kim said that he had cleared up the case through President Yoon, who was a prosecutor during the Busan Savings Bank investigation, and former special prosecutor Park Young-soo, who was a lawyer.
However, as it was revealed that Shin Shin-lim, former chairman of the National Media Workers’ Union of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, who recorded Mr. Kim’s voice and gave it to Newstapa, received 160 million won from Mr. Kim in September 2021, suspicions are rising that it was a fabricated report to influence the presidential election. .
As controversy arose, Newstapa released the entire recording file containing Kim’s voice without editing on the 7th.
Prior to KBS, MBC also said through ‘News Desk’ the afternoon the previous day, “MBC, which quoted Newstapa’s article the next day (March 7 last year), had limitations in conveying Mr. Kim’s remarks as they were in a situation where it was refused to provide the original transcript. He said, “As a result, it caused confusion to viewers.”
