Kazhakutam Opens Elevated Highway; Later official opening – Kazhakoottam Elevated Highway

The Thiruvananthapuram – Kazhakootam Elevated Highway was opened to the public. The largest elevated highway in the state opened without an official grand opening. The construction was completed but the failure to open was the reason for the protest. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari did not have an inauguration date, so the inauguration was delayed.

The National Highways Authority opened the highway to avoid traffic jams. The National Highway Authority said it was not too late to open the highway and it took some time to complete the inspections. The project engineer said the official opening would take place later.

It was previously announced that the road would open on November 15, but it did not open that day. It was later announced that Union Minister Nitin Gadkari will inaugurate it on 29 November. The construction of the road started in December 2018. The construction cost is Rs 200 crore. The length is 2.71 km from Technopark Phase Three across from CSI Mission Hospital. There is a service road 7.5 meters on both sides. The bridge has 61 pillars.
