Kazakhstan will not help Russia circumvent the sanctions imposed on it by the United States and the European Union for its aggression in Ukraine, Timur Suleimenov, the first deputy head of the presidential administration, said on Friday.
“We will respect the sanctions. “Although we are part of the economic union with Russia, Belarus and other countries, we are also part of the international community, so we want Kazakhstan to be subject to secondary US and EU sanctions,” he said.
According to Suleimenov, Kazakhstan “will continue to invest in Russia and attract investment to Russia” because the republic’s economy is not operating differently. “However, we will do our utmost to control the goods subject to sanctions. “We will do our utmost to control any investment in Russia by individuals or organizations subject to sanctions, and we want to make this clear to Europeans,” he added.
Kazakhstan, along with Russia, Belarus, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan, are members of the Eurasian Economic Union.
