Kazakhstan Investigates Participation of Citizens in Ukraine Conflict

“The KNB is investigating ten criminal cases on the facts of the participation of citizens of Kazakhstan in hostilities on the territory of Ukraine,” the report says.

Information about the defendants in the criminal case and their actions is still unknown, the data of the pre-trial investigation are not subject to disclosure according to the law. It is also unknown which side the defendants are fighting on.

Under article 172 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan, participation in foreign armed conflicts provides for criminal liability in the form of imprisonment for a period of 5 to 9 years.

Previously it was reported that Kazakhstan intends to strengthen control over re-export of goods to Russia to prevent circumvention of Western sanctions.
