Kazakhstan Beats France in World Cup Opener: Full Match Recap and Statistics

Kazakhstan beat France, and Poland almost pulled off a stunning win over Latvia.

The opening match of the World Cup started unsuccessfully for the national team of Kazakhstan: already in the second minute the puck hit the goal Andrey Shutov. But within a minute the captain of the team Roman Starchenko the balance resumed, and then the French broke the numerical composition and remained in the minority – which Maxim Muhometov he managed to convert a second before the penalty period expired.

So, even before the middle of the first period, the fans saw three goals, but they had to wait a long time for the next one – until the end of the second period. This time the Kazakhs remained in the minority, which did not hurt Kirill Savitsky of charge beautiful bag shooting.

In the third period, Shutov and his partners had a hard time. The French attacked heavily, more than doubling the Kazakhs in the number of shots on target, and three minutes before the whistle they replaced the goalkeeper with a sixth field player. But this did not help them at all.

The meeting between the British and Canadian national teams followed a similar situation. The British, acting as designated hosts, opened the scoring; The Canadians quickly equalized and then began to increase their advantage. In the second period, Connor Bedard scored a double and brought the score to 1:4; in the third, Ben O’Connor reduced the difference to two goals. That’s how she stayed.

The Danes beat the Austrians without much trouble, while Poland (staffed mostly with hockey players from their tournament) and Latvia (where everyone plays abroad) caught up: the Poles took the lead three times, the Latvians tied three times. They did so for the third time seven and a half minutes before the end of regulation time, and then Richards Bouckaerts scored what looked like a turnaround. However, this time the Poles took up; and half a minute before the siren they had a numerical advantage. The Latvians defended the minority, which carried over to extra time, and then Kaspars Daugavins gave them a labor victory.

The Norwegians almost caused another sensation, in the first period of the meeting with the Czech Republic they responded with three goals to Roman Cervenka’s puck. Even before the break, Cervenka scored a double, and then only the Czech scored, finally winning 6:3.

At the beginning of the second period of the game against Germany, the Americans had to replace goalkeeper Alex Lyon, who injured his hand. By this time they were leading 2:0; By the second break the score had increased to 4:1. Trey Augustin, who came on instead of Lyon, was really bored in the third period: the puck was almost always in the opposite field. The Germans were twice outnumbered, but even in equal numbers the numerical advantage of the United States was fully realized. The Americans scored two more goals and brought the score to a big one, although it could easily have been even more.
