Kazakhstan has banned the export to Russia of 106 types of high-tech goods that could be used in war.
About it announced Vice Minister of Trade and Integration Kairat Torebaev, reports the Kazakh Telegraph Agency.
The minister clarified that imports from Russia to Kazakhstan are carried out, but exports from Kazakhstan are limited
“We export all goods, except those related to war – restrictions are imposed on them. These are 106 types of goods – we have completely banned their export,” Torebayev said.
These products include drones, electrical chips, and electronics that can be used in war.
“The indicated 106 items of goods are not produced in Kazakhstan, but were previously (before the war between Russia and Ukraine – ed.) re-exported through Kazakhstan,” Torebayev explained.
We remind you:
In the first half of 2023, Russia imported goods worth $14.1 billion from the European Union alone. For this purpose, transit routes through Kazakhstan and other parallel import hubs (Georgia, Armenia, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan) were used.
Compared to the same period in 2022, the volume of such imports soared by almost 60%, or $5.2 billion, and its main items were telecom equipment, microelectronics, electrical equipment, transport equipment, computers, servers, hard drives and smartphones.
Kazakhstan’s measures became known a few weeks after German Chancellor Olaf Scholz visited Astana. After negotiations with him, the President of the Republic Kasym Zhomart Tokayev confirmed his intention to comply with sanctions against Russia.
In September, the US Treasury blacklisted 150 legal entities and individuals, including companies from Turkey and Finland, that were found to be supplying Russian structures related to the production of military drones and cruise missiles.
