On December 23, senators passed a law abolishing the death penalty in Kazakhstan.

“With the adoption of this law, Kazakhstan has joined the group of countries where the death penalty is banned by law. In addition, our country is showing its support for the international movement for the complete abolition of the death penalty,” said Sen. Speaker Maul Ashimbayev.
