The goal of tomorrow’s match with the Faroe Islands for the Latvian men’s football team is only one – to win – emphasizes the head coach of the national team Dainis Kazakevičs.
On Saturday, Latvian footballers will host the Faroe Islands in the last home game of the UEFA League of Nations this season at 7 pm at the Daugava Stadium. In the first mutual game in this cycle, a tie was recorded 1: 1.
“Tomorrow’s game is very welcome and important for us, because we will play with the group leader. Our ambition for tomorrow’s match is to win – to do what failed in the Faroe Islands. It is important for us to play opponents in our homes, which is a well-organized team, but it will not be an easy task, ”Kazakevičs said at a press conference on Friday.
Defender Vladislavs Sorokins received a positive test result in the Latvian men’s football team, performing Covid-19 tests after returning from San Marino. LFF also reports that physiotherapists Dmitry Yefremenkov and Vladislav Fyodorov have had questionable test results.
“It is clear that Sorokin and Fyodorov are not preparing for the game. Also injured Artūrs Zjuzins and Igors Tarasaovs are not preparing for the game. We are very anxiously awaiting the results of the upcoming tests to see if all the players are available, ”Kazakevičs admitted.
Today there will be a full-fledged pre-game training, in which all football players will participate, but then a decision will be made on the composition. “At the moment, we have not made the final decision on 3-4 positions,” said Kazakevičs, acknowledging that the Liepāja footballers who played in the Latvian Cup on Sunday are also ready for the match.
It has already been reported that on Tuesday the Latvian national team defeated San Marino 3: 0 in the test game. The performance could have been more convincing.
“Winning is not easy at the moment, so I do not want to underestimate this positive result. It is clear that both teams were not in the optimal composition, but our player resource was bigger and better. This is the game where it was very important to win, but there were many elements that we were not happy about, ”Kazakevičs recalled.
Meanwhile, the defender of the Latvian national team Elvis Stuglis expressed that a feeling of bitterness remained after the previous game against the Faroe Islands.
“If several games are played with an inconclusive result, then the faith in the team and yourself is lost. Games like against San Marino give us the confidence and belief that we really can, ”said Stuglis.
As one of the advantages of the Faroe Islands, he mentioned that the opponents are very fast trying to switch to attack with long passes behind the defenders.
“It simply came to our notice then. We look more at our game, which we can adjust to make us better. In the Faroe Islands, we let our players out of their hands after a corner kick, they should not be allowed to get to the ball in standard situations, ”Stuglis explained.
The Latvian national team has fought a draw three times in four UEFA League League D games and suffered one loss. Latvians have lost hope of winning the group and playing in the third level in the next UEFA League of Nations season.
