Kayser bakeries reportedly set to pull out of New York

The French bakery chain has 16 shops in the city, currently closed due to the pandemic. It would seek to terminate all of its leases.

In 25 years, baker Eric Kayser has conquered the taste buds of consumers on all continents thanks to the 250 stores open in some twenty countries. But it seems business is not booming in New York anymore. Present in the city since 2012, the Maison Kayser brand is about to close its 12 stores, according to information from the Commercial Observer.

The company is reportedly seeking to end the lease on its Manhattan store, and an unspecified second site, according to reports from owners who are in talks with the company. One of them claims that these decisions are part of a total disengagement plan for the city.

Shops have already gone out of business before the pandemic

Maison Kayser has bakeries in Hudson Yards, Columbus Circle and Union Square, Flatiron, Bryant Park and one in downtown Brooklyn.

The shops are currently closed due to the Covid-19 epidemic and its 689 employees placed unemployed. Unlike other restaurants, Maison Kayser did not seek to overcome the ban on eating indoors by setting up a take-out service. Which goes in the direction of a decision to lower the curtain soon.

The health crisis is not the first setback facing the bakery chain. Before that, she had to close some stores before the end of the leases, including two in Whashington and two in New Yok.

Contacted by the Commercial Observer, the sign did not want to comment on this information.
