September is coming, which means that the Name Day of the Blessed Virgin Mary Street is coming. We will celebrate the holiday of one of the most important places in Legnica on September 7-8 in the very heart of our city!
The first day of the celebration of the Street’s Name Day (Saturday, September 7) will begin with the National Reading performed by the Legnica Public Library. Then, the stage will be taken over by performers from the Youth Culture Center and Alan Cymbalista, winner of the Audience Award at the 61st National Festival of Polish Song in Opole. Undoubtedly, the big attractions of the evening will be the concerts of the Sound’n’Grace band and Kayah. The singer is one of the most recognizable and appreciated artists on the Polish music scene. Musically versatile, most often moving in the folk, pop, soul and jazz climates. Author of many hits such as “Za strach”, “Supermenka”, “Na językach”, “Testosteron”, “Prawy do lewego” or “Śpij Kochanie Śpij”. In turn, Sound’n’Grace is one of the most popular gospel choirs, which cooperates with the biggest stars of Polish song.
The second day of the September celebrations will take place in a folk atmosphere during the 11th Legnica Festival of Cultures “Kto Siedzi na miedzi (-y)?”. Their artistic programs will be presented by well-known and popular folk groups from the region, as well as the “Legnica” Song and Dance Ensemble and the “Kyczera” Lemko Song and Dance Ensemble. At the end of the Sunday event, the FiśBanda band will perform – highland temperament and true music of Podhale and the Carpathians!
In addition to musical attractions during the Name Day of Ulica, residents will have access to exhibitor zones, NGO zones, animation zones and catering. The youngest will be able to take advantage of workshops prepared for them. Throughout the weekend, it will be possible to visit the tower of the Evangelical Church of the Virgin Mary (tickets: PLN 10 – standard, PLN 4 – concession)
On the eve of the Street’s Name Day, September 6, the 23rd Legnica Silver Keys Blacksmiths’ Tournament will begin. The event, organized by the Legnica Sports and Recreation Center, will last two days, and its program includes forging demonstrations and the Fire Theater. In addition, guests of the event will be treated to entertainment for children, a performance by a music band, and a treat of regional delicacies.
The name day celebrations of St. Mary’s Street were held under the honorary patronage of the European Commission Representation in Poland.
