Los Angeles Clippers star Kawhi Leonard will not start the next NBA campaign after having surgery on a right knee ligament, the club announced on Tuesday without giving the likely duration of his unavailability.

Injured against the Utah Jazz in June, Leonard then missed the last eight play-off games for the Clippers. His club first mentioned a sprain and then specified in a statement Tuesday that he had partially torn the anterior ligament of the right knee.

The healing time for this type of injury can be up to several months or weeks, depending on the case. No date has been set by the Clippers for Leonard’s return.
