“Kaupēns” returns to the concert hall stages

After a break of almost two years, a new production of Jānis Lūsēns and Māra Zālīte’s rock opera “Kaupēn, mans mīļais” returns to the concert hall stages. The first two performances will be shown on February 26 at the Jelgava Culture House. An additional show was also announced in Liepaja on February 27.

After experiencing a huge response, the new production was forced to pause. Producer Aigars Dinsbergs says about his return: “We owe this show to our viewers. Due to an emergency, the sold-out performances had to be canceled, so again, thank you to our audience and to the entire team for their understanding. Although we are not yet able to work at full capacity in February, we are happy to resume work. The messages encoded in this outstanding work of art about our society, its delusions, myths and conscience have become even more relevant in today’s context. ”

Raimonds Celms, a talented actor of the Latvian National Theater, takes on the role of Kaupena in the concert performance. Anmary (Linda Dinsberga), Zigurds Neimanis, Annija Putniņa, Inese Pabērza, Mārtiņš Kagainis, Elizabete Zagorska, Toms Kalderauskis and Edvards Grieze also participate in the production. The involvement of students and graduates of the Music Department of the Riga Dome Choir School also makes a great contribution – their choir and vocal parts, as well as the choreographic performance create a particularly dynamic, youthful energy. An expanded line-up of instrumentalists led by Jānis Lūsēns also participates in the performance. It should be added that “Kaupēns” will also be shown in Riga – a performance at VEF Culture Palace is scheduled for March 13.
