The Lithuanian airport operator company “Lietuvos oro uostai” announced on Friday that due to equipment installation work in November, passengers at Kaunas airport may experience temporary inconvenience in certain periods, but in the future, new generation technologies will make checking passengers’ luggage more convenient and reduce anxiety.
The company insisted that the scanners and lines of the new standard will help to serve more passengers than before, and passengers will no longer need to remove electronic devices or liquids from their hand luggage, although they will still have to be placed in containers of no more than 100 milliliters each. The total volume of liquids per passenger will still not exceed 1 liter.
The new generation of scanners will start operating in January next year.
Last year, the Polish company “Dimark SA” won the international competition announced by “Lietuvos oro ostai” for the installation of new generation aviation security scanners and baggage lines. The cost of the project is 5.8 million euros without value added tax.
The latest data show that in the third quarter of this year, compared to July-September last year, the number of passengers at Kaunas Airport increased by 4.9% to 366,600.
Last year, 1.15 million passengers were served at Kaunas airport, compared to 487,000 passengers in 2021 and 1.16 million passengers in 2019, when the industry was not affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
