Kaufland has invested 1.7 billion crowns in the expansion of the distribution center in Olomouc

It can hold 23,500 pallets, so the total capacity of the distribution center in Olomouc has increased by about a third. Kaufland operates two distribution centers in the Czech Republic, in Modletice near Prague and in Olomouc.

“The new construction will help us increase absolute storage capacity, bring greater warehousing efficiency and significantly improve ergonomics for employees,” said Juraj Bendík, Head of Logistics at Kaufland ČR.

The construction of a new warehouse in Olomouc began in January 2020 and a fully automated Hochregal foundation system was installed in it. Automatic loaders in the warehouse transport, for example, mineral water, milk and beer. “Hochregal will bring better working conditions for employees, saving work mainly for forklift drivers. But they will definitely not lose their jobs, because there is a long-term shortage of these employees. On the contrary. Ultimately, thanks to our strategy, we will provide work for more people in Olomouc, “said Bendík. The construction of a small parts warehouse with a capacity of up to 10,000 pallets has also begun in the distribution area in Olomouc. It is suitable for storing smaller goods that do not fill entire pallets.

Kaufland supplies 137 of its stores from two warehouses in the Czech Republic. The pair of distribution centers has more than 900 employees. The construction of a new warehouse for fruit and vegetables is in the final phase in Modletice. Its commissioning is planned for May this year. Together with the modernization of the complex in Olomouc, the total investment is around 2.7 billion crowns.

Kaufland Czech Republic is part of the German Schwarz business group. It entered the Czech market in 1998 and now operates 137 stores, two logistics centers and its own meat plant. It employs more than 23,500 people in the Czech Republic.
