Katy Perry recently shared what led to her yearlong breakup with Orlando Bloom, whom she began dating in 2016. On the podcast “Call Her Daddy,” the singer revealed that their relationship wasn’t smooth sailing from the start. Orlando Bloom, on the other hand, was in a thoughtful, single phase, ready to make a serious commitment. Katy Perry, on the other hand, was fresh out of a relationship and needed some time away. “I needed to go swim in a different pond,” she says candidly.

Their 2017 split coincided with Bloom attending a retreat at the Hoffman Institute in California, a place dedicated to emotional and mental reconnection. After the experience, Bloom changed his attitude, which disturbed Perry. Accustomed to a certain game of seduction, she no longer found the “pressure” that fueled their dynamic. “I said to myself: ‘This is boring, I’m moving on,'” she recalls.

“Without that, I wouldn’t be here today.”

But in 2018, after experiencing this retreat herself, the artist found new tools to better understand herself and evolve. This experience, combined with meditation, literally saved her life. “Without it, I wouldn’t be here today,” she confides with emotion.

The couple reconciled and welcomed their daughter, Daisy, in 2020. Today, Katy Perry recognizes Orlando Bloom’s strength in their relationship. He knows how to be the anchor she needs when she falters, providing balance in their relationship. “Usually I’m alpha, but I need help. And he’s there for me,” she admits. A beautiful lesson in love and maturity.
