Pop star Katy Perry (35) and Hollywood star Orlando Bloom (43) are happy about their baby: their daughter will be named Daisy Dove Bloom, as the two Unicef ambassadors announced on Thursday on the children’s aid organization’s Instagram account.
“We are soaring with love and the wonder of our daughter’s safe and healthy arrival,” the parents are quoted as saying.
“Welcome to the world, Daisy Dove Bloom! We have the honor to introduce the new bundle of joy to our two Unicef ambassadors,” wrote the organization.
Numerous celebrity friends of the couple congratulated: “Congratulations, I’m so happy for you,” commented actress Millie Bobby Brown. Actor Justin Theroux “welcomed” the baby and sent “love” to Perry and Bloom.
The parents posted a black and white picture showing the parents’ hands holding a baby’s hand. A picture of a daisy (in English: Daisy, the baby’s name) adorns one of the mother’s fingernails. Perry may have provided a hidden reference to the name as early as May when she released the first single from her album. The song is called “Daisies”. In the accompanying video, the pregnant Perry was seen in a thin, white dress that emphasized her baby bump in the wind.
Perry had revealed the secret of her pregnancy in March. There had been rumors for a long time that the musician and her fiancé would have a baby. Bloom already has a nine-year-old boy from his marriage to top model Miranda Kerr. He has been with Perry since 2016.
The parents on the Unicef website put the news of the birth of their daughter in a larger context: “We know that we are the lucky ones and that not everyone should have the experience of a birth that was as peaceful as ours.” In many places the health system suffers from too few employees, “and every eleven seconds a pregnant woman or a newborn dies – mostly for preventable reasons”. Then Perry and Bloom ask for donations for better health care for women in need and close with an appeal that alludes to the names of their daughter and father: “We hope your hearts may bloom with generosity.”
