“The image of the unshaven Prime Minister and the ministers appearing distressed after the fires used to work. Now he is angering the citizens” emphasizes the MP and candidate for president of the PASoK, Michalis Katrinis.
Mr. Katrinis referring to the issue of the fires, speaking to the SKAI television station, said that “the image of the prime minister and ministers, who appear unshaven and distressed in the coordination for the fires, may have passed some years ago and brought benefits for the government, but now it angers the citizens”.
Katrinis for Mitsotakis: As long as he has been prime minister, 600,000 acres have burned in Attica
“Just as they are angered by the promises and measures that are announced, but never implemented, for the restoration of the fire-affected areas. Mr. Mitsotakis did not take over the government yesterday, he has been ruling for more than 5 years. In Attica, as long as he has been Prime Minister, 600,000 acres have been burned, in the last fire 100,000 acres of forest were burned, the fire reached Halandri and Vrilissia”, emphasized the candidate for the leadership of the PaSoK, while underlining that “there are constant failures in coordination, and operational gaps and issues in firefighting’.
At the same time, he pointed out that “only 1% of the available resources of the Recovery Fund for fire protection has been absorbed. The AEGIS program for civil protection was supposed to run from 2021, but the first moves to absorb the funds were made only in 2023.”
“Currently, 17.7% of the program implemented by TAIPED has been contracted, while 37.6% is in the final signing phase of the contracts. The remaining 45% is pending,” noted the Ilias MP.
Michalis Katrinis also referred to the “clear”, as he described it, position that he has formulated that “there is no way for the PaSoK to cooperate with New Democracy in order to keep Mr. Mitsotakis in the position of Prime Minister”.
“Some want to impose on the agenda of the public debate, the perspective of cooperation with New Democracy so that Mr. Mitsotakis remains Prime Minister and that what we live and what we see continues. This perception, in addition to the personal strategies and aspirations of those who adopt it or promote it, also reflects another perception: the one that wants the PaSoK to remain a small and medium-sized party, to be a government supplement and a small government partner” he said and added:
“My perception is completely different. Instead of having as the first topic on the agenda of the debate what we will do when the New Democracy is not self-sufficient, let us put as the first topic and first priority the initiatives to create a Great Party that will win the elections and be self-sufficient.
The governance of the country cannot necessarily include Mr. Mitsotakis, New Democracy and those who have interests with them.
A Great Front will not be a lifeline for Mr. Mitsotakis and those who support him. That’s why they fight her and don’t want her.”
