Just on the Strap Day, an initiative that calls for more space for pedestrians and cyclists, a 12-year-old girl was killed on her way to school in Zwevegem on Friday. In the school environment, Kato ended up under a truck that overtook her. “It is very painful that this can still happen in 2020,” says Wies Callens of the Fietsersbond, who was just traveling to Zwevegem for a cycling event for the benefit of Parents of Verongelukte children. “We have been asking for years to avoid conflict situations in school environments, but it is still a matter of planning.”
