Berlin. The managing director of Musicboard Berlin, Katja Lucker, is moving to the head of the nationwide music initiative in the same role. The 54-year-old will head the federal government’s central funding institution for pop and jazz from 2024, according to a statement from the Berlin cultural administration on Monday.
After more than a decade, the cultural manager announced that she would be leaving Musicboard Berlin at the end of 2023, it was said. The initiative, which was founded jointly by music players and the state in 2013, was set up and led by Lucker from the start. The Musicboard sees itself as an “advocate, advisor, enabler and accomplice of the pop culture music scene”.
In 2015, Lucker also initiated the Pop-Kultur festival, and since 2018 she has also been managing director of the Fête de la Musique.
“Pop culture in Berlin would look different today without Katja Lucker,” said Berlin’s Senator for Culture Joe Chialo (CDU), who was a successful music manager himself before entering politics. Lucker “formed the Musicboard into a decisive and influential institution in the Berlin music world”.
