Just before the end of the year, there is another breakup in showbizland. Katja Schuurman (46) announces on November 25 that she and Freek van Noortwijk (33) are ending their marriage. This is how their fairytale began six years ago and sadly ends this week.

June 2015
After eight years of marriage to Thijs Römer, Katja bumps into young chef Freek a few months after the breakup in his restaurant Guts & Glory. In June 2015, he confirms that he and Katja are “infatuated” with each other. “That can hardly be otherwise, because she is just a super sweet and nice chickie,” added Freek in conversation with AD.
The spark quickly flies between them. “It seems like a modern fairy tale. The cook fell in love with a more than satisfied customer and vice versa. (…) We are happy. In love and as far as we are concerned only beautiful things are about to happen.”

June 2016
In love, engaged, married: the couple can imagine that. It is therefore no surprise when Freek gets down on one knee for his Katja after a relationship of one year. “When I see Freek, everything in my body that has to do with sex starts immediately,” Katja said in the morning show of Edwin Evers.

June 2019
Apparently June is a magical month for them. Three years after Freek asks Katja if she wants to be his forever, the couple secretly say yes to each other on June 21. They do this completely in their own style for a weekend, with a sexy dress for Katja and no rings, but bracelets.
“It’s a whole weekend of partying with all the people we love and it’s really fantastic,” Katja told RTL Boulevard about the wedding. “I’m sincere. I didn’t expect it. I saw her walking towards me and I was completely sick of being in love,” said Freek about the moment he saw his bride. Katja: “We both had to cry a little and that’s how it should be.”

Augustus 2020
In August 2020, Katja and Freek’s wish will come true when daughter Coco Loulou is born. Her big sister Sammie, the daughter of Katja and Thijs, came up with the name. A few months later, the actress openly talks about childbirth in Gwen van Poorten’s podcast.
“It took five hours in the end, but you don’t know that. I thought: if this lasts 24 hours … that’s hell. Although it was also quite hell for a few hours. I just thought: pull her out then out!” A morphine pump was suggested, which the presenter accepted. “I didn’t want an epidural, because then I couldn’t push,” explains Katja.
Eventually Katja could find peace again and she decided to visualize her daughter in her arms. “Then she was out within two contractions,” said Katja. “And I can still feel her going out and I didn’t have that with Sammie. (…) That’s a real kick.”

November 2021
Katja announces in an emotional post that the relationship is over. She writes that they have tried very hard to make their marriage work, but that they are too different from each other. Yet they are more than grateful that their paths crossed. “We’ve been through wonderful things together and we loved each other very much. The most beautiful of all is the birth of our enchanting, moving, humorous, smart, beautiful Coco Loulou, who otherwise would not have been born,” the presenter writes.
In turn, Freek has not yet responded to the break. Iconic, er… ironically, the message of his most recent Instagram post is #this doesn’t work. This is not about his relationship with the actress, but about the corona measures in the Netherlands.

The break comes to the outside world like a bolt from the blue. According to entertainment reporter Aran Bade, who attended the wedding of the lovebirds, there were no visible cracks in their marriage.
