Katie Ledecky Wins Gold in 800m Freestyle, Ties Olympic Record for Most Women’s Gold Medals

Katie Ledecky won gold in the 800 freestyle in 8:11.04.

Australian Ariarne Titmus won the silver medal in 8:12.29. The bronze award went to USA representative Paige Madden (8.13.00).

For Ledecky, this is the second gold medal of the current Games and the ninth highest prize at the Olympics in his career. The Americans managed to repeat the record of the Soviet gymnast Larisa Latynina for the most gold medals at the Olympic Games among women. In total, Ledecky has 14 Olympic medals (9-4-1).

Larisa Latynina, 89, won four gold medals at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, three gold medals at the 1960 Rome Olympics and two gold medals at the 1964 Tokyo Games. Latynina is a nine-time world champion and the seven-time European champion.
