Kathleen Aerts, one of the original members of K3 and recently featured in The masked singer, said goodbye to her mom, Maria. The woman, who had suffered from Alzheimer’s for 16 years, died at her daughter’s home in South Africa. She turned 67. “Our house is very empty without you, but I have not lost you”, Aerts writes on Instagram.

“Our dearest mother passed away peacefully at our home under the South African sun,” Aerts (42) begins her post. The singer has lived with her husband in South Africa for five years. Her mother, who had been struggling with Alzheimer’s for a long time, lived with them. “For 16 years we have traveled the ‘Alzheimer course’ together”, it sounds. “Sometimes an ordeal, but also with very intensely beautiful moments. Our mother is surrounded by 3 wonderfully sweet caregivers day and night at our home with the best loving care. She was so ‘happy’ here that she may well have broken the record of ‘surviving survivor with young dementia’. ”
Aerts also brings back fond memories. “My brother and I are privileged to have had such a sweet, caring, fun-loving mom who was always in the mood for a party. It was never boring at home! With a beer and cigarette in hand and a sausage and cheese, she was a listening ear to many at our kitchen table. An übermama. I am grateful for the time she gave us to say goodbye. ”
“Dear mama”, she concludes, “Our house is very empty without you, but I have not lost you. I feel you, I see you in my heart. Forever. My best friend, my mama. Immense gratitude and endless unconditional love. ”
