Kateřina Siniaková: From Roland Garros to Wimbledon, Overcoming Challenges and Celebrating Success

“Perhaps it shows that I am a fighter. You can see that it is not possible for a person to be at the top all the time. The career is winding,” said Siniaková, who was eliminated at Roland Garros in the first round a month ago. “Even though Paris didn’t work out, I was able to be there and those are the steps that are supposed to help. It’s not enough for you on the court, but the main thing was that I was able to be there and not watch it on TV. Everyone was down and about it they appreciate it more when it’s on top,” she added.

She described the move to London after the victory in Bad Homburg as a fluke. The information that she will play on the opening day of Wimbledon did not please her. “Unfortunately, it sometimes happens that they split the halves,” she said. She also appreciated the attitude of the judge who contacted her. “I was surprised that she wrote to me and asked if the third round was good. So I said yes. It has never happened to me that they discussed the program with me at a Grand Slam,” said the coach of Peter Huber.

She saw it as an advantage that she had arrived with success behind her. “I didn’t have anything to confirm. I wanted to win, but she (Cheng Chin-wen) was the seed who was preparing for it. I could only surprise. I went into it knowing that I had a great week, and when it will work, it will be a bonus,” described Siniaková, who coped better with the weather conditions on the court.

She had her left hip treated during the game, but believes she will be fine. “It’s obvious that I’m tired. I hope it’s going to be okay and nothing serious. I didn’t even make any movement. Out of nowhere, it started to sting and it went up my leg. It helped that the physiotherapist loosened it up. Hopefully he’ll be fine next time. Anyway, I’m going to go there and try to do my best.” said Siniakov, who will face Ukraine’s Lesja Curenko in the 2nd round.

She has already enjoyed her time with the injury, working out in the spring with a sore wrist. “It was hard for me. I was also injured last year, but now it was different, I didn’t really know what to do with it,” she said of the difficulties that stemmed from the overload. She also had to overcome the pain after returning to training. “It was challenging in my head. I had a green, but it still hurt. I’m glad that I’m probably a bit of a bull. I went through the training sessions and it went away overnight. Exactly as everyone says,” she described.

She rated the triumph in Bad Homburg highly. “I’m proud of how I managed that week. I’m glad that I went there and accelerated my comeback after injury,” said Siniaková, who won her fourth title on the WTA circuit and her first on grass.

At 27, he has titles on all three surfaces. “I’m not quite a grass player, but I believe that I’m able to adapt to all surfaces. I’m glad that I also added a title on grass, and maybe it won’t be the last,” she said. The world ranking, in which she jumped to 32nd place, also looks good on her. “It’s a beautiful number. And with what happened at the beginning of the year, I would probably only dream of it. I’m glad that it worked out. I hope that it will only go up and there will be a new number that I’m still there she didn’t have,” Siniaková added. Her highest singles ranking is 31st.
