She shared her struggle on GoFundMe and was overwhelmed when ‘Titanic’ actress Kate Winslet donated the full amount after hearing of Carolynne’s struggle on BBC News. According to ‘MailOnline’, Ms Hunter said: ‘Our journey as a family has been very traumatic and I feel exhausted at this point in my life. When I heard about the money I burst into tears. I thought it wasn’t even real. I’m still thinking, ‘Is this true?’ We are still freezing and not even below freezing. I urge staff not to turn on the heat unless it is necessary. Council have installed solar panels to help but I don’t think it will help with the bill. I have not reached out to ask for donations but at the same time I have to make sure Freya is okay.” As grateful as Carolynne Hunter is, she is sorry for the many other patients who do not receive government or other support. “I get help, but what about all the other? I wanted the government to pay and do the right thing: it didn’t have to be a celebrity to intervene.”
As well as making a donation, Kate – who is a patron of Family Haven, a charity set up to help underprivileged and vulnerable families in Gloucestershire – has also reached out to the family to wish them well.
