Kate Winslet comes to Zurich at the ZFF

Big respect for that Zurich Film Festival: British Oscar winner Kate Winslet (48) attending the festival in Zurich for the first time this year. As part of the ZFF, she is honored for her successful career and her changing ability. Winslet will receive the “Golden Icon Award” on October 7 in Zurich.

The actress will then present her new film. In “Lee – The Photographer” by the director Ellen Kuras, Winslet herself plays the main role of the war photographer Lee Miller and works as a producer. Antony Penrose, son of the “real” Lee Miller, and co-producer Kate Solomon will be in Zurich.

“Kate Winslet is a true icon of cinema and she shines through her versatility in major studio projects as well as small indie productions,” explained Christian Jungs, Artistic Director of the ZFF. Her diverse range of roles and her long career in Hollywood would make her an audience favorite for several generations.

So Kate Winslet gets the “Golden Eye” by the ZFF. This award recognizes her acting achievements and career, which is marked by films such as “Titanic”, “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”, “The Reader” and “Avatar: The Way of Water” . The ZFF is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year – so Winslet’s visit is a “big gift,” enthuses Christian Junge. “We have tried several times to get to the ZFF and now it has finally worked.”

Past Golden Icon Award winners include Jessica Chastain, Hugh Jackman, Cate Blanchett and Hugh Grant. The “Golden Icon Award” ceremony is considered the highlight of the Zurich Film Festival every year.

Kate Winslet was born in England in 1975 and comes from a family of actors. Her career began at the age of eleven and she gained early attention with her role in Peter Jackson’s “Heavenly Creatures” in 1994. She gained international fame a year later with “Sense and Sensibility”, where the she received her first Oscar nomination.

However, her breakthrough came in 1997 with “Titanic” where she starred alongside Leonardo DiCaprio. She also received an Oscar nomination for her role as Rose. In 2008 she finally received an Oscar for her role in “The Reader”. She showed versatility in several other successful films, including “Revolutionary Road” (2008), “Steve Jobs” (2015) and “Ammonite” (2020).
