Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton visited Southport, England, the city where an attack killed three girls during a Taylor Swift-themed dance class that sparked riots in late July, in the first public official, joint appearance of the couple after the completion of the princess’s chemotherapy, Kensington Palace announced.
Southport, a quiet seaside town in northwest England, drew international attention on July 29 when three little girls were stabbed to death and other children were seriously injured in an attack during a summer event. Riots broke out days later.
During their visit today, William and Kate, the Prince and Princess of Wales, held private talks with the victims’ families and a dance teacher who was present at the time of the attack and later met representatives from the local emergency services, who had rushed to help during this incident.

“Meeting with the community today was an important reminder of the importance of supporting each other in the wake of an unimaginable tragedy. You will remain in our thoughts and prayers.”
It is one of Kate’s first engagements since she began her slow return to work after completing a round of preventative cancer chemotherapy and is her first public appearance since.

“Today, the Prince and Princess of Wales visited Southport to show their support for the community and hear how local people have come together as the town tries to get back on its feet after the tragic attack on stabbing that took place,” Kensington Palace said in a statement.
Kate’s surprise appearance came as the couple wanted to visit the area to offer their support to the families and community and give them the message that no one has forgotten them.
The visit follows one made by William’s father, King Charles, who went to Southport in August, where he met with child survivors and their families.
