We arrive for dinner with Betty and Alexis in Sounio.
After a long discussion about America and California, Alexis tells me:
“You’ve been making a lot of noise lately.”
It is the first time I have announced to him my intention to come down, with the asterisk of privacy.
Both Betty and Alexis calmed our concerns about our family life, which we still appreciate to this day.

Impressed by the video but also urging me to further clarify my vision for the modern Left (beyond the reconstruction of SYRIZA), Alexis tells me:

So the truth is that the decision to run for president was made (and videotaped) before I even announced it to Alexis. And his attitude was the kind and cordial that the outgoing president would have towards any executive who would declare his intention to run for leadership.
And my intentions were pure. And for Greece. And for the Left. And for SYRIZA. And for Alexis, whom I felt the need to defend against those who I felt disrespected him.
