Kasselakis: The Greek Justice moves at a slow pace – I am grateful for the efforts of the European Prosecutor (Video) – 2024-05-05 03:29:14

“The European Public Prosecutor is doing an excellent job investigating cases concerning the Rule of Law, as the Greeks do not trust the Greek judiciary and the Mitsotakis government,” said Stephanos Kasselakis in an interview he gave to Euractive.

The president of SYRIZA referred extensively to the progress of the investigations into the crime of Tempe and the wiretapping scandal.

“I am grateful for Laura Kovesi’s efforts in investigating these types of cases. We shouldn’t have to go all the way to Brussels in order for the citizens to hope that they will be vindicated,” he underlined.

The Kasselakis interview

“Justice in Greece moves very slowly. There is a lack of public trust in the Mitsotakis government. The only way things will change is with a SYRIZA government, so that we can proceed with the radical reforms that the country needs”he added.

He also noted that Brussels understood what was happening in Greece, regarding the wiretapping scandal “but the propaganda mechanisms of the government do not want the citizens to understand this. They work hard to hide the deceit from the eyes of the world. I remind you that Brussels has sued the Greek government for the handling of the cases concerning the Rule of Law and Freedom of the Press”

“We have to show the citizens that politics has ways to act in their interests, against the Russo-Fetological perceptions and that “nothing will change”. This change must start from the bottom up.” stressed Stefanos Kasselakis, stressing that “I believe in the EU project, but improvements are still needed, especially in terms of practical support”.

“Northern countries must not turn a blind eye to pushbacks against refugees”he added.

At the same time, he highlighted the fact that Greece is second from the end in the ranking that highlights purchasing power and second in terms of indirect taxes.

Regarding the looming rise of the extreme right in Europe, Stefanos Kasselakis characterized the developments as “extremely worrying”.

“Citizens must understand that these elections are critical. If we back down in the face of hateful and divisive rhetoric, progressive forces will be hurt for the foreseeable future.”

At the national level, Kasselakis emphasizes that the results of SYRIZA will cause “surprise”. He noted that SYRIZA represents “modern Left covering the whole range from the centre-left, the Left and the Greens”.

At the European level, he noted that the parties of the Left, the Social Democracy and the Greens should find common points of convergence and send a resounding message. “A message that will show that there is a way out of austerity, creating conditions for real development and protection of the environment to ensure a better future for generations to come.”

Finally, he noted that SYRIZA is at the point of expanding its base. “We have done an excellent job opening up the party to new talented people, but also digitizing the processes so that citizens give us strong feedback. I think it is only a matter of time before the citizens trust us en masse for the changes we have made. This is a new example of policy making”.
