In his post, the president of SYRIZA, Stefanos Kasselakis, refers to the important problem of housing for teachers, on the occasion of the unprecedented incident of the teacher in Rhodes who slept in a car, as he was unable to find housing commensurate with his salary.
“Politics never stops. They informed me that with the help of the local community of Rhodes, a solution was found to the accommodation problem of the teacher who was forced to sleep in his car. And I am proud that there is humanity and solidarity in our country”, notes Mr. Kasselakis.
To underline: “However, the problem of housing our teachers and professors, who go to serve outside of Athens – and especially in expensive, tourist areas – cannot be an issue that is solved by the citizens themselves. It is an issue that the State itself must take care of.”
“SYRIZA has drawn up a special housing program”
“That’s why, in the face of the apathy of the ND government, SYRIZA has drawn up a special housing program for teachers, security forces and the Armed Forces, in island and border areas”, reminds Stefanos Kasselakis.
As he characteristically mentions, in fact, leaving an indirect tip about the internal party developments in SYRIZA, “it is exactly these programs, these proposals of SYRIZA that are ‘buried’ by the media in order to show the small and insignificant – with a great deal of our responsibility unfortunately”.
“‘My fellow human beings helped me,’ declared the teacher of Rhodes,” emphasizes Mr. Kasselakis, as the teacher who serves in Rhodes spoke to in about the calvary he experienced.
“As long as we don’t have a State, we at least have each other. But our request is to finally build a State. A state that respects its citizens”, concludes the president of SYRIZA.
