Stefanos Kasselakis gave an interview to Alpha. In it he answered about his departure from SYRIZA, the developments of the last few days, but also the Movement he announced he would create.
“What we are starting will be a movement that will belong to society and will be made from the grassroots… Whatever emerges from this movement will not cooperate with the ND. The provocations have already begun. I will not cooperate with ND, I respect its history but it has always benefited the few” he initially reported.
When asked about the name of the new party, he repeated: “It will be set up live and digitally. People will be able to suggest the name and features. It will be something that the world will participate in and co-own.”
“It will be in the progressive space, with advanced positions… In the old terms, it will be a center-left party. In modern terms it will be a party for equality” he said to a question about the orientation of the party and then pointed out that “half of PASOK is center-right. PASOK still does not have much appeal in the urban centers. Anyone who wants a modern capital does not express himself with PASOK. With our party, he will have the opportunity to claim a modern country”.
“I will respond legally to Polakis”
Then the discussion went to the internal parties of SYRIZA. Initially, Mr. Kasselakis attacked Pavlos Polakis for what he has said about him, stressing: “Mr. Polakis will receive my legal response in the next few days. They allegedly found that I was in the Navy, 6 months before I became president. Apparently I was. Because he’s calling me a cheater to a lot of people, he’s going to get his answer and find out. I’m not going to leave the country. I’m not going to betray the people who have supported me”.
He then pointed out: “SYRIZA has defected from democracy. The actions of the party leadership in the last 10 days are illegal. Of the delegates who excluded, in the variable voting and so on. We have many proofs that we won the conference. We were the only ones who presented numbers… We are talking about a large majority who wanted me to be judged at the ballot box. This party has acted illegally and must be judged accordingly. Those MPs who choose to stay in SYRIZA are legitimizing a coup that took place, the blockade of the base”.
In fact, he also referred to the issue of the independence of party MPs, stating: “Each MP must decide for himself. If he wants to remain in the party, then that is his right. History will judge… The party is no longer democratic. What happened has never happened before in the post-colonial era. It’s one thing to leave because you lost and another to be kicked out because you won.”
