Dog’s Voice, which manages the accommodation of fire-affected animals in Galatsi, was placed in this regard. According to the organization, the president of SYRIZA visited the fire station on August 13, and expressed his desire to host a dog. He then took a short walk and asked to meet one of these dogs, while learning about the animal’s behavior and rescue conditions.
The agency stressed that no adoptions take place at the facility without first vetting the guardians and checking the environment in which the animal will live.

“After enormous fatigue and anxiety of the last few days, we are forced to take a position on the issue that has arisen with the publications regarding the adoption of a burned dog by the President of SY.RIZ.A., Mr. Stefanos Kasselakis.
On Tuesday 13/8, Mr. Kasselakis visited the Agency’s fire-affected animal station in Galatsi, he was shown around like all the other representatives of the parties who also visited us, and he asked us what kind of help we need. We answered him that the most important help is the accommodation of animals that do not have guardians as we as an Organization do not re-introduce animals as strays to the burned areas firstly because it is harmful to their health, secondly because we usually do not know where they lived exactly, although who was taking care of them as strays and thirdly because they have a chance to change their lives and we are here to give it to them.
After this discussion, Mr. Kasselakis asked the head of the Organization to host a dog and she showed him the area where we had dogs with microchips registered in Municipalities, the majority of which are confirmed strays. In fact, Mr. Kasselakis asked to meet a dog that had an electronic tag in the Municipality and which was given to him by our positive trainer for a short walk around the site while he was also answered questions about his behavior and rescue conditions. He also asked us about the adoption process for the structure’s animals, and we replied that no adoptions take place in the structure as the process of verifying guardians requires time and responsibility on our part.
We immediately contacted the relevant Municipality, as we do for all those who are interested, and told Mr. Kasselakis that we will inform him in the next few days about the hosting process and that the animal will remain in our structure and under our responsibility until then as a procedure that concerns environmental control and verification of the animal’s living conditions before its rescue. He agreed, we exchanged contact details and shortly after he left.
