Liputan6.com, Jakarta – Cyber security company Kaspersky reminds internet users to be more alert to fraudulent emails, which use QR codes or QR codes.
According to Kaspersky, there have been many cases where users received emails that appeared to come from large companies such as Microsoft or the Office 365 cloud service, which contained QR codes.
However, it turns out that the contents of this email contain a suspicious invitation, namely that if the user scans the QR code, hackers or cybercriminals can access or hack an account.
Quoting a press release, Tuesday (9/1/2024), this phishing email usually contains a notification, stating that your account password will soon expire.
They also threatened that users would lose access to their email, so the password had to be changed, and required scanning of the QR code in the email and users had to follow the instructions.
Another spoofed email might warn recipients that “the authenticator session expired today.”
To avoid this, users are requested to “immediately scan the QR Code below with your smartphone to reauthenticate your password security” or access to the mailbox may be lost.
Another example Kaspersky reported was a message telling readers that the email was “from a trusted source.”
Kaspersky also reminded users to be more wary of emails that are labeled “verified”, and should still be treated with caution.
According to the company, the sender of the emails using the above method wants to try to trick unwary users. They may also assume that the recipient is familiar with authenticator applications, which typically use QR codes.
